Happy New Year
Happy New Years to you and yours. Kim and I spent our time at our home in Hawaii. And no, we didn’t see the President.

To start the year off, I thought a few statistics might be of interest. At the start of 2010 gold was around $1,080 per ounce and silver was around $16 per ounce. At the end of 2010 gold was around $1,400 per ounce and silver was around $30 per ounce.

This means that in 2010 gold increased by roughly 30 percent and silver increased by roughly 87 percent.

When I see numbers like that, it makes me both happy and sad. It makes me happy because I made a lot of money investing in gold and silver—and so did many of my readers. It makes me sad because many people with no financial education and a low financial intelligence, people who follow the old rules of money like saving money, lost a lot of money to inflation.

I know our leaders claim there’s no inflation. Yet, when you compare the price of gold and silver, the numbers tell you a different story. And when you look at your own life, you know that’s a lie. How many of you can honestly say that life has gotten less expensive?

When you look at the price of oil, soon to be over $100 a barrel, I wonder how politicians can claim there’s no inflation and still live with themselves. There are only two options: our leaders are either so financially ignorant they can’t see the obvious, or they’re pulling the wool over the eyes of a financially ignorant population. Neither one is a good option.

In Conspiracy of the Rich: The 8 New Rules of Money, I wrote about my experiences as a pilot in Vietnam in 1972 as their currency was crashing and a mad rush for gold began. Although today’s financial situation in the US isn’t as dire as it was in Vietnam, I sense the same uneasiness brewing today that I felt then.

Remember, you can do very well financially no matter the economic conditions, but only if you choose to study, think for yourself, and watch what is really going on in the economy. Although many people are doing very well financially, I’m afraid millions more people will struggle for a long time.

In the meantime, keep studying and thinking for yourself. That will be your surest ticket to a prosperous 2011.

Thank you for supporting COR and happy New Year.
